December 1987 - Worcester Electrical Distributors Ltd. was formed by Bob Rushton and Neville Butler
February 1988 - Company commenced trading
June 1988 - Appointed as a main distributor for Telemecanique
April 1992 - Company became fully computerised
October 1993 - Opening of a branch in Brierley Hill
July 1997 - Company further expanded by forming a new division, Electrical Control Supplies, to service the central Birmingham area. This name was chosen to remove the geographical link to Worcester, allowing the company to trade on a national basis
August 1998 - Company expanded again by opening a fourth branch in Hereford, to service major industrial users and other customers in the area
February 2001 - Appointed Omron distributors
August 2001 - Hereford branch outgrew their existing building and as a result moved to Grandstand Road.
August 2001also saw the move of the head office and Worcester branch to 30% bigger unit, still on Blackpole Trading Estate, enabling the company to grow further and expand the range of products available
November 2001 - Appointment of our Brierley Hill branch as a Telemecanique and Merlin Gerin distributor in its own right. Because of this, we doubled the floor area of the depot by annexing the building to the rear.
June 2002 - Became a member of AWEBB (Association of Wholesale Electrical Bulk Buyers Ltd) AWEBB is the fifth largest buying consortium, consisting of some 60 member companies with 110 branches in the UK and a joint turnover approaching £150M capital. This enables us to enhance our product offering and ensures that we are able to purchase at the very best terms and thus continue to be extremely competitive in the market place. AWEBB boasts its own central warehouse, which allows us to obtain a large range of stocked products next working day. See www.awebb.org.uk for details
August 2002 - Became an official ABB franchise holder at our ECS Birmingham branch when they took over Entrelec
November 2002 - Approached to become a Weidmuller distributor (Klippon) and have continued to grow their market penetration rapidly March 2003 - Pilz became an important supplier of safety equipment to us in
November 2006 - Saw us move ECS Birmingham depot to a 5000+ sq ft building centrally located in Aston, Birmingham.
November 2007 - Will see the opening of our fifth branch in Gloucester, located in a brand new industrial unit in Quedgeley, 4-5 miles to the south of Gloucester City Centre. We expect this new depot to promote rapid growth.
